The Hirscher clan is supposed to lead Austria out of the ski crisis

In year 1 after the Marcel Hirscher era, the ÖSV is in a hangover mood - and not just because they lost the Nations Cup to their arch-rivals Switzerland for the first time in 30 years. Especially in the men's technical disciplines, the shortcomings that Hirscher has concealed with his phenomenal successes in recent years have been mercilessly exposed.

The shoe was particularly hard on the giant slalom. There was neither an Austrian victory nor a podium place. That made those responsible think, now comes the reaction. “The results in the giant slalom team were not what we expected. “We have therefore decided to replace the coaching team,” explains the ÖSV men’s sporting director, Andreas Puelacher, in a press release from the association. A prominent name in the coaching team Benjamin Prantner was consequently removed as coach and Michael Pircher took his place. He was Marcel Hirscher's responsible coach from 2012 to 2019 and was therefore instrumental in the success of the exceptional athlete. Pircher is now taking over the RTL team around Roland Leitinger, Stefan Brennsteiner and Co.: “When I was asked if I wanted to do that, I was initially surprised and had to swallow. My second reaction was great joy because it is not an easy task for me, but it is very exciting.”

Pircher is also bringing his entire team with him, in which another prominent name stands out. Ferdinand Hirscher, Marcel's father, will support the coach. Pircher knows that there is a lot of work ahead of him. “The starting situation is not the best, but at the end of the season we would like to have two athletes in the top 2 and a compact giant slalom team,” is how he defines the goals.
