The next victory: Alex Hofer celebrates in the European Cup for the first time

Until the beginning of December, only absolute ski insiders had the name Alex Hofer on their list. Until then he had only attracted attention in FIS races. As if out of nowhere, at the beginning of December in Trysil he finished second on the European Cup podium for the first time. A rapid development followed, which occurred on Epiphany in the World Cup debut culminated at the infamous Chuenisbärgli in Adelboden. Now, just ten days later, the 24-year-old is beaming from the podium as winner in the European Cup for the first time.

Maurberger and Eisath also in the top ten

At the giant slalom in Kirchberg, Hofer recorded the second best running time in the first round. In the decision he improved again and relegated the Austrians Stefan Brennsteiner and Dominik Raschner to their places. When half-time leader Samu Torsti botched his second run, Hofer's debut victory was set in stone.

With Castelrotto, two other South Tyroleans were also able to enjoy a top result. Simon Maurberger from Ahrntal finished seventh and made it into the top ten for the second time within 24 hours, while Florian Eisath from Eggental, who has won a World Cup, was one day later his victory in the first giant slalom in Kirchberg, this time he took ninth place. The Gadertal brothers Hannes and Alex Zingerle, however, were eliminated in the second round.

Yesterday Florian Eisath, today Alex Hofer: South Tyrol's skiers won everything at the European Cup in Kirchberg (Austria). For the young man from Castelrotto, it is the crowning achievement of what has already been a memorable season.
