The new ski calendar is causing a lot of discussion

The World Cup start in Sölden was brought forward to 17/18. October and the cancellation of the North American races had been known for a long time. Finally, for cost and safety reasons, travel routes were optimized and speed and technical cables as well as men and women were separated in some places. The previous changes to the calendar Two women's slaloms will take place in Levi (Finland) on November 21st and 22nd, but the men's slalom will take place later in the season. The men's parallel race in Alta Badia will be replaced by a slalom. Adelboden will experience three races with an additional giant slalom on Friday, January 8th.

The women's speed season starts a week earlier than planned with two Super-Gs in St. Moritz on December 5th and 6th. Then Courchevel follows with two technical races on the weekend. The parallel event in Davos, which was planned for January 1, 2021, was postponed by a year because it would have been difficult to meet Covid-19 requirements due to its proximity to the town center. Pinturault and Yule not enthusiastic “I'm happy that we have a fairly high number of races. But there are some things that might not be so smart. They make a working group that deals with injuries. Then at the end of January they are planning 3 slaloms in one week (Kitzbühel, Schladming and the parallel race in Chamonix Note d. Red. ). “That’s a lot of effort,” said FIS athlete spokesman Daniel Yule SRF .

Alexis Pinturault is also bothered by the many bottlenecks in the calendar: “After the races in Alta Badia (December 20th/21st), we continue directly in Madonna di Campiglio the next day. The FIS wants to separate the speed and technical specialists from each other. But what about the all-rounders like Kilde, Kristoffersen (who is said to have trained a lot in Super-G this year) or me?”

A total of 39 men's races (originally there were 42) and 35 women's competitions (originally 37) appear in the current World Cup calendar. The race calendar will be approved and published by the FIS Council on October 3rd. Further changes cannot be ruled out.
