Like his brother-in-law Dominik Paris, an Ultner from Kuppelwies, Kuppelwieser has an eventful past behind him despite being only 28 years old. He was a ski racer himself, and after graduating from the sports high school in Mals, he first made it into the state squad, then into the forest guard sports group and into the “Azzurri” European Cup team. Constant companions were injuries to the ankle, shoulder, intervertebral discs and knees. After 7 operations it was over, and Kuppelwieser - he is the brother of Domme's partner Kristina - began studying physiotherapy in Innsbruck, which he completed after 6 years in Salzburg with a master's degree in sports physiotherapy. This was followed by internships in the German handball Bundesliga at TVB Stuttgart, at the traditional football club VfB Stuttgart and in ice hockey at HC Meran. He then moved to FC Südtirol in Rungg, where, together with physio legend Paolo Cadamuro, he kneaded the muscles and joints of not only the professional players, but especially the youth. Kuppelwieser helped Paris after a torn cruciate ligament Until, yes, until Dominik Paris tore the cruciate ligament in his right knee before the 2020 Kitzbühel races and a few weeks later the world came to a complete standstill because of Corona. Kuppelwieser no longer had anything to do at the FCS and didn't leave Domme's side at home in Ulten during his physiotherapy and advanced training. In order to keep the ongoing recovery of the Paris joint under control (“I know his knee better than he does”), Kuppelwieser decided to accept an offer from the downhill skiers. There he was also able to use his knowledge of ski racing. This even goes so far that he not “just” warms up the riders’ muscles at the start of the races, but also takes up a position on the slopes as a trainer. And: Based on his own list of injuries, he knows best what it's like for athletes who have to fight their way back after injuries. And of course you can recognize which of his protégés deals with pain better and who deals with it a little less well. Kuppelwieser then slips into the role of listener, motivator, but also driver. Kuppelwieser himself also gets pain when he pursues his great passion, Spartan training. The extreme obstacle course with the elements of endurance, strength, agility, speed, skill, balance and coordination has become very fashionable in recent years. And for Kuppelwieser a reason to be very humble. “I see what extraordinary athletes our downhill skiers are, especially Domme. I can manage the amount of training that they complete and that I often try to follow, over a period of a month at most. Then I have to let it go because they are able to train to a completely different extent than I am. I always imagined that I was in good physical condition. But there is still a lot of room for improvement.”
