The ski boss is outraged: “That’s not acceptable”

He did not give his deputy Emmanuel Couder a good reference. “Normally I am the Chief Race Director, this time he was in the role,” reported Waldner, who was already in Switzerland on Thursday. The Frenchman Couder was apparently overruled by Pavlek, who is also the Alpine director of the Croatian association. “Of course he was under a lot of pressure. But there is no compromise. He has the last word, he has to assert himself.” Criticism of the deputy The first round would have been difficult because of the badly battered slope Waldner made it clear that this should not be started at all. “After the inspection you can see that you can’t run the race because we have 60 runners at the start,” he said. “Then I had to intervene and canceled the race over the phone. But that was already too late because the race should never have started.”

The slalom also caused trouble in the paddock. “What just bothered me was the inconclusive decisions. Anyone can make decisions that are wrong, but decisions should be made and not back and forth five times,” said Manuel Feller. “The person who had the scepter in his hand made no decisions. And the person who actually has it in his hand wasn’t there,” he said, referring to Waldner and Couder.

Waldner now wants to entrust the FIS management with the matter. “Next week we will have a meeting with management and review the race and see what we will do in the future. We don’t do World Cup races like that. This is not advertising for our sport,” he emphasized.
