There are again two trips to North America for the men. After the traditional speed block at the end of November/beginning of December, the technicians stop off again in Palisades Tahoe and Aspen in February and March. It was already known that the new team combination (downhill + slalom) tested at the Junior World Championships in January 2023 would be used in the World Cup for the first time in Kitzbühel. The World Cup final will take place over two weekends in Saalbach-Hinterglemm.
The two transatlantic trips were criticized, not least for reasons of climate protection. Earlier this week, the NGO Greenpeace and the Protect Our Winters initiative called for fewer trips on the calendar. In addition, there were complaints about some organizational problems and technical glitches in Palisades Tahoe and Aspen last season, for example in the TV broadcasts. Next year only the technicians will be sent to the USA after the turn of the year - the speed races in Aspen have been canceled. There is still a small question mark behind the speed events in Lake Louise from November 22nd to 26th.
Zermatt/Cervinia back on the calendar
The season starts on the 28th/29th. October - and therefore a week later than usual - in Sölden, where women and men each compete in a giant slalom on the Rettenbach Glacier. The men will then continue a week and a half later (November 8th to 12th) with the cross-border descents in Zermatt/Cervinia, while the women will be able to enjoy the glacier descent a week later. The premiere should have taken place in the previous season, but was canceled due to a lack of snow. This year the cross-border descent in Zermatt/Cervinia is finally scheduled to celebrate its premiere.
New to the women's program are the two giant slaloms in Mont-Tremblant in eastern Canada. They replace the speed races in Lake Louise. There will be another stop in Austria for the men: a slalom is scheduled for November 18th in Gurgl in the Ötztal. Jasna is making a World Cup comeback in Slovakia, while Zagreb was completely off the calendar. Both genders will be guests at the World Cup finals from March 16th to 24th in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The next World Ski Championships will take place there in 2025.
13 men's slaloms
While the women have 11 races in each discipline, the men's slalom specialists can look forward to a whopping 13 races. This is followed by the downhill runs (12), giant slaloms (11) and super-Gs (9). From a South Tyrolean perspective, the traditional locations remain in the World Cup calendar: namely Val Gardena, Alta Badia and the women's giant slalom at Kronplatz.Men's World Cup calendar
