The World Cup entourage settles in Val Gardena

The Ciampinoi lift company has prepared the route on which the 1970 World Cup giant slalom was held in an exemplary manner over the past few days. The terrain has steep and copied sections, which is why it is ideal for the racers because they can refine their cornering technique but also their speed with a view to the two World Cup races on the nearby Saslong.

It's difficult to be fast on this slope, but it's tailor-made for Ghedina and Nyman," says the 49-year-old and explains how important experience is in his work: "Two places are crucial in the race: you have to take the long left turn after the start It's good to catch it because if you lose speed you won't be able to make up for it afterwards. The Ciaslat meadows and the Ciaslat exit are just as important.” In the World Cup, the service man prepares his riders' racing skis and that's why the race starts long before they get to the start. “I get initial information about the snow and weather from afar and, after arriving at the race location, I ski down the piste to get a concrete impression of the conditions. The temperature is then measured, various data analyzed and feedback from the driver obtained after the training runs. I prepare the racing skis the day before and only adjust the edges before the start if that's necessary." At the moment, Mussi only looks after Nyman, "although in some situations it would be better for the work to have a second driver, to collect more impressions of the descent.”

This Monday, the majority of the approximately 20 national ski teams will arrive in Val Gardena to get in the mood for the first training session on the Saslong on Wednesday. Until then, the speed specialists will prepare on the 3-person slope of the Ciampinoi in Wolkenstein.
