The wild Kilde bends the Swiss in Wengen

On Thursday the Super-G still Marco Odermatt prevailed against Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. A day later the order looks different: In the first of two descents in Wengen, the Norwegian had the upper hand thanks to a brilliant ride and celebrated his first victory under the infamous Lauberhorn.

Kilde and Odermatt – these two skiers are really in a league of their own at the moment. The numbers alone are impressive: Kilde competed in ten races this year and won five of them. Nevertheless, he is almost 400 points behind the leader Odermatt in second place in the overall ranking – impressive. Kilde's brilliant ride The two giants also fought an exciting battle for victory on Friday. Because the athletes didn't want to have to do two full-length Lauberhorn runs (the race also starts in Wengen on Saturday), the route was shortened somewhat, but it lost none of its spectacle. Kilde started the race with start number 11, mastered all the key passages - i.e. Hundschopfkante, Kernen-S and Ziel-S - with outstanding aplomb and crossed the finish line with a whopping lead of three tenths of a second over the Wengen specialist Beat Feuz, who had been leading up to that point.

A few minutes later, Kilde looked excitedly at the television in the finish area from the leader board because Marco Odermatt was at the start. He showed off his class, especially in the technically most difficult sections, especially the Kernen-S, and was in the lead for a while, but on the finish slope he lost the crucial hundredths of a second and ended up in second place. He had to stay on the podium until the end -Constellation Kilde-Odermatt-Feuz – or Norway-Switzerland-Switzerland – nothing will change. The South Tyroleans, on the other hand, still have room for improvement. Dominik Paris mastered his traditional problem areas in the upper part solidly, but he lost a lot of time in the final part and had to settle for 9th place. As a result, the Ultner also lost the red jersey of the leader in the downhill ranking. Christof Innerhofer was also extremely strong at the top and was even faster than the rest of the field in the second intermediate time, but a mistake in the middle section prevented Gaiser from achieving a top placing. In the end it was 13th place.

The shortened descent on Friday was a tasty appetizer for the big Lauberhorn race on Saturday (12.30 p.m.). Then it starts from the top. It remains to be seen who will come out on top on the longest descent in the world.
