The special career of Anna Hofer

World Cup debut in January 2011 Anna Hofer from Steinhaus im Ahrntal was allowed to compete in the Super-G in Cortina for the first time in January 2011, where she was eliminated. However, just two weeks later, in her second World Cup race, she moved into the spotlight: in the giant slalom in Zwiesel (Germany), the then 22-year-old took a good 16th place.

But that was it for a long time. Due to injuries, there were no further World Cup results for years.

Small turnaround in winter 2015/16 The winter of 2015/16 brought a first turning point, when Anna Hofer, together with Verena Gasslitter and Lisa Magdalena Agerer, achieved the feat of three South Tyrolean women at the top of the overall Super-G ranking in the European Cup - with a fixed place in next year's Super-G World Cup races.

The fixed place didn't always work last year due to the many strong Italian Super-G riders, but at least for a few races. One of them was the Olympic dress rehearsal in Jeongseon, where Hofer finished 27th in the World Cup points for the second time in her career. Last winter, Hofer also managed to secure a fixed place in the Super-G World Cup races through the European Cup.

This year improvement from race to race This season the button seems to have worked: After failing in the first Super-G in Lake Louise, Anna Hofer improved from race to race - and collected World Cup points for the third, fourth and fifth time in her career. This weekend, 28th place in St. Moritz was followed by 21st place and 10th place in Val d'Isere.

And suddenly there is even the dream of the Olympics If Anna Hofer continues her upward trend in the next two Super-Gs in Bad Kleinkirchheim and Cortina, then the Ahrntal native even has a chance of getting an Olympic ticket. The “Azzurre” Super-G team is big and strong, but at the moment only Sofia Goggia, Johanna Schnarf and Federica Brignone seem to have secured the Olympic starting place. Of the other candidates - especially the Fanchini sisters Nadia and Elena and the Val Gardena native Nicol Delago - Hofer is the only one to have achieved a top 10 ranking so far.

Big early birthday present?

If the Olympics work out, this would be a huge, early birthday present for Anna Hofer: she will be 30 years old a few days after the end of the PyeongChang Games.
