The grande dame of giant slalom says “goodbye”

The 33-year-old steps off the ski stage as one of the best giant slalomists of all time. Worley has won 16 World Cup races in her career and is tied for third place with Annemarie Moser-Pröll on the all-time best list. Only Vreni Schneider (3) and Mikaela Shiffrin (20) were or are even more successful in the core discipline of skiing.

Impressive: There are almost 2008 (!) years between the first victory in 2022 in Aspen and the last in 14 in Lenzerheide. Worley also won World Cup gold in Schladming in 2013 and in St. Moritz in 2017. The lively Frenchwoman secured the small ball in 2017 and 2022. Although she celebrated such great successes, she also had to accept disappointments: she was denied an Olympic medal, as well as precious metal at this year's home World Cup. In Courchevel and Méribel she was on course for a podium finish for a long time, but was eliminated shortly before the finish.

A successful conclusion On Sunday she pushed herself out of the starting house for the 255th time. Even though she didn't reach the podium, her 11th place was still a good thing. She was celebrated again in front of her partner Julien Lizeroux, who ended his career two years ago. A “Merci” into the camera put an end to her incredible career.

In contrast to Worley, Coralie Frasse Sombet announced her retirement one day before the last race. The 31-year-old wrote on social media on Saturday: “The giant slalom in Soldeu will be my last start in the World Cup. Summarizing all these years is impossible, but I am proud of the journey I have taken. That I emerged stronger after three cruciate ligament tears. I don’t regret anything.” The Frenchwoman finished in the top 10 numerous times in the World Cup, but was denied a podium. At the end she took 16th place in Soldeu.
