The Hahnenkamm race week begins

Dominik Paris is looking forward to Kitzbühel. The Hahnenkamm run in the Tyrolean posh ski resort is one of Ultner's favorite routes. Also because he has already won the legendary downhill twice. What's in store for the 28-year-old and his teammates this year?

The form of the South Tyroleans should fit

It is obvious that Paris is one of the candidates for victory this year too. He is in good shape, even if he expected better than eighth place in Wengen. But the Lauberhorn race is a thing of the past. Now the music is playing in Kitzbühel. Dominik Paris's star finally rose there in 2013. After winning Bormio, Paris also won in Kitzbühel - an accolade.

But it's not just Paris that's in good shape. Christof Innerhofer has shown strong performance recently, but has to overcome the Wengen collapse. He crashed into the mat in the Kernen-S and suffered a sprained knee capsule. The thumb is also damaged. But the Gaiser cannot miss Kitzbühel. Where he took second place in the Super-G last year and then had to end the season because of a broken fibula.

Fill and Heel look forward

Peter Fill also thinks fondly of Kitzbühel. While the Castelrotto native was badly beaten in 2013, he took revenge three years later and triumphed on the Streif in 2016. Things didn't go well for him in Wengen either, but it's similar to Paris: the focus is on the future.

Werner Heel is a fourth South Tyrolean at the start in Kitzbühel. The Passeir native voluntarily skipped the World Cup weekend in Wengen and is returning to the Azzurri World Cup squad in Kitzbühel. Mattia Casse, Matteo Marsaglia and Emanuele Buzzi from the Italian team will also be taking part in the speed races. Giant slalom specialist Luca De Aliprandini from Cles, however, will only compete in the Super-G.

Who are the favorites?

As with every downhill run in the men's ski circuit, the circle of favorites is also large in Kitzbühel. From Wengen winner Beat Feuz, to the Norwegians Aksel Lund Svindal and Kjetil Jansrud, to the Austrians Hannes Reichelt, last year's Super-G winner Matthias Mayer and Vincent Kriechmayr. In any case, the latter has already announced that the Austrians are planning to do something similar at home in Kitzbühel after the Swiss triumph in Wengen. The German Thomas Dressen and the French team around Adrien Theaux have outside chances.

Marcel Hirscher is the big hunted in the slalom. On the one hand, because he won on the Ganslernhang last year. On the other hand, because as an Austrian he is under special observation in Kitzbühel. The pressure is great, but it's not a problem for Hirscher - he has shown that often enough. It will be exciting to see whether Salzburg can continue its series or whether Henrik Kristoffersen & Co. can strike back.

Four South Tyroleans in action at the slalom

The South Tyrolean hopes rest on Manfred Mölgg. He was last twelfth in Wengen. With Riccardo Tonetti, who showed a strong first run in Wengen, Patrick Thaler and Fabian Bacher, three other South Tyroleans are in action in the slalom on the Ganslernhang. The Italian team is completed by Tommaso Sala, Giuliano Razzoli and Stefano Gross. Cristian Deville is missing due to injury.
