South Tyrol is now represented on the board of the International Ski and Snowboard Association (FIS). Verena Stuffer from Val Gardena is a member of the board as an athlete representative. Each FIS discipline has 2 athlete representatives. These athlete representatives elect a woman and a man to represent them on the FIS board. This time the choice fell on Verena Stuffer and the ski crosser Alex Fiva from Switzerland. The former downhill skier was previously an athlete representative for alpine skiing. Now she represents all FIS athletes. “I am of course very pleased that the athletes have given me this trust,” said the 38-year-old yesterday. Incidentally, Stuffer is also a member of the board of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI). The World Cup calendar for next winter was also approved at the FIS Congress in Zurich. We have already reported on the Alpine calendar. In cross-country skiing, the Tour de Ski will return to Dobbiaco. The start of this stage race will take place for the first time in the Nordic Arena at the turn of the year. In snowboarding there will be the World Cup on December 14th in Carezza, which is already a tradition. The Ski Cross World Cup will be in San Candido from December 20th to 22nd. This FIS Congress also decided to introduce a new event, namely the FIS Games in all of the association's disciplines, which will take place for the first time in 2028. There has also been a lot of criticism of the controversial FIS President Johan Eliasch, both internally and externally. Environmental organizations such as Greenpeace in particular accuse Eliasch of so-called “greenwashing”.
