The ski aces are getting closer in training

The route, located around 90 kilometers north of Beijing, presented the athletes with a major challenge. Because no one had ever raced on the slope before, everyone was thrown into the deep end. Christof Innerhofer coped excellently with the technically demanding route in good conditions and came third, although he missed a gate during his journey. The Swiss Stefan Rogentin set the best time (with a goal error).

In bright sunshine, light winds and perfect snow conditions, the 2014 Olympic downhill champion Matthias Mayer had the honor of opening the training. Despite an almost upright upper body, the Austrian drove past two gates in the upper, winding section, where the athletes reach speeds of over 130 kilometers per hour. After Romed Baumann also didn't get the perfect line, it was Dominik Paris with number 3 who was the first to drive correctly through all the gates. Shrugging his shoulders, the 32-year-old swung off at the finish – knowing that it would probably be faster. This impression was subsequently confirmed. Ultimately, the Ultner took 27th place. Innerhofer strong As the minutes went on, the ski aces found a better approach, especially in the trickiest section of the route after around 30 seconds of skiing. In this case, it is important to reach out widely in order to get enough direction before jumping, as the following goal can only be recognized late. Innerhofer mastered this perfectly, but got off balance in the aerial phase and missed a goal.

In the remaining sections, however, the veteran was among the best, which is positive. The fastest downhill skiers who completed the course correctly were Canadian James Crawford (+0,34 seconds) and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde from Norway (+0,41). The other favorites around Beat Feuz and Marco Odermatt largely held back. The second training session on Friday will provide more information. 1. The ski aces are getting closer in training
