“I may have been happy too early,” said a cheerful Alex Vinatzer, commenting on his extensive celebration in the finish area of the Canalone Miramonti after he had beaten the Norwegian Timon Haugan’s time by six tenths of a second. However, the lead didn’t last long – Alexis Pinturault, Kristoffer Jakobsen and winner Sebastian Foss-Solevåg pushed past the 22-year-old from Val Gardena, who was nevertheless happy in fourth place.

“I reacted after a bad first run and attacked in the upper part of the track. Unfortunately, I made mistakes again on the steep slope and in the lowest section, which cost me the podium,” emphasizes the athlete from Wolkenstein. The signals from the first two races of the season are good, the form is right. Now it's time to work on the fine-tuning before the slalom in Zagreb on January 5th. “I’m confident for the next month,” says Vinatzer. The damn last goal When asked about the incredible mistake by Clement Noel, who gave away a victory that was believed to be certain at the last goal, Vinatzer said: "From now on we will all take the inspection more seriously, unfortunately something like that happens very quickly, as you have seen." For his part, he was a slalom specialist failed at the last goal in Val d'Isere.

In Madonna di Campiglio, not only Vinatzer but also Simon Maurberger had reason to be happy. The 26-year-old made it into the top 10 in a slalom for the first time after his serious knee injury - for the third time in his career. “Such a result was important, especially because the race here is the best of the year for me,” reports the Ahrntaler. “After the first slalom, which didn’t go as planned, I had to readjust. I already had a good feeling yesterday and am now very happy.”

The Ski World Cup continues after Christmas with the speed competitions in Bormio (December 26-30). For Maurberger & Co. things won't get back to business in Zagreb until the new year.

Even if Alex Vinatzer missed the podium by just a touch at the night slalom in Madonna di Campiglio on Wednesday evening, the mood after the race was good - including Simon Maurberger, who also ended up in the top 10.
