Marco Odermatt: He is already a big one and can become a much bigger one: The Swiss not only won seven World Cup races like the Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who took home both speed balls, the giant slalom Olympic champion also secured the overall World Cup and, after his Olympic success, also the giant slalom ball .

I Italy's speed ladies: What Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone did again this season was extraordinary. They ensured that Italy won both women's speed balls (Goggia in the downhill and Brignone in the super-G). Goggia won 4 downhills and 2 Super-Gs. Brignone (3 times) and Elena Curtoni (1 time) were also at the top of the Super-G. The Italian women won 10 of the 11 wins this season in the speed disciplines.

Late bloomer: After being kicked out of all squads, Johannes Strolz (29) from Vorarlberg fought back, won his first World Cup race in the slalom in Adelboden and won gold in the combination and team competitions as well as silver in the slalom at the Olympic Games in China. In Kitzbühel, Dave Ryding (35) broke the spell and won the first victory by a Brit in the Alpine Ski World Cup.

Norway men's team: Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (7), Henrik Kristoffersen (5), Atle Lie McGrath (2), Sebastian Foss-Solevaag and Lucas Braathen (1 each) ensured 16 wins for the Norwegian men's team. Behind Switzerland (25 athletes scored 5.705 points), Austria (22 scored 5.682), Norway came third (4.228) - only 12 runners were responsible for this. FLOPS: Alexis Pinturault: Of all things, the season after the overall World Cup victory was the worst for the French ski racer in many years, precisely since 2010/2011, when he achieved a podium finish. In 2021/22 there were just three podiums and there was not one win. At the Olympics, Pinturault tried every discipline except downhill, the best being fifth places in the giant slalom and mixed team competition.

Crown: The list of athletes who were out of action for a while after a Covid-19 infection is long. Mikaela Shiffrin missed the Lienz races, but Katharina Liensberger, Cornelia Hütter, Lara-Gut-Behrami as well as Vincent Kriechmayr, Manfred Mölgg and Manuel Feller also had to take forced breaks. The FIS chief race directors Markus Waldner and Peter Gerdol were also hit. The women's slalom in Flachau was canceled due to high corona incidence rates; the replacement location was Schladming.

South Tyrolean technology results: For the women, South Tyrol only got a total of 5 points in the technical disciplines. These were achieved by Karoline Pichler in the giant slalom in Åre. In the men's category, four South Tyrolean giant slalom players, Tonetti, Maurberger, Hofer and Zingerle, scored points, but no one was able to really take a big step forward. In the slalom, Alex Vinatzer remains among the world's top South Tyrolean solo entertainers. But he was also denied a podium place.

Ballless ÖSV season: As in 2019/20, none of the twelve possible balls for winning a discipline or the overall ranking went to Austria. Last year there were three by Katharina Liensberger, Marco Schwarz (both slalom) and Vincent Kriechmayr (Super-G). At least Austria regained victory in the Nations Cup after the ÖSV had to admit defeat to the Swiss twice.

Zagreb Slalom: The postponement of the men's race to the next day due to soft slope conditions and the cancellation of the slalom for safety reasons were accompanied by chaos. Decisions were made too late. Emmanuel Couder, who acted as race director for the FIS, took command from race director Vedran Pavlek.
