Dominik Paris: That's the mood before the big comeback

Before he set off for Val d'Isere yesterday, Wednesday, he was really challenged at home. The Ulten Valley was particularly badly affected by the onset of winter, and so Dominik Paris also had to shovel snow. Over 2 meters came together, so there was a lot to do. It was not at all inconvenient that the first training run in Val d'Isere was postponed by one day to this Thursday. If the not so rosy weather forecasts come true, it could remain the only training run and even the races would be in danger. “Especially before the first race, a training run is not enough. It's not one of the most difficult descents, but it has everything a descent should be. It’s not an easy descent,” says Paris, who has competed in two races on this slope and was on the podium once (2rd in the Super-G). The entire preparation went smoothly for the Super-G world champion, which is anything but normal after a torn cruciate ligament. “Physically I'm feeling good, skiing is also looking good. I never had to stop training,” says Paris, who only skied again for the first time at the beginning of September. “The preparation was of course not as ideal as in other years. South America training was already missing. But we also reached speeds of 140 km/h in Cervinia,” reveals Paris, who also trained for a few days in giant slalom in Val Gardena with coach Raimund Plancker before the big snowfall. “After 14 days just on long skis, that’s what we needed,” he emphasizes. “A top ten result would of course be nice. You're not far from the top and can work on the little things that are still missing. Zanon also has new skis in his luggage, but Paris is not sure whether they will be used. Two training runs would be important in order to be able to try something out. When he looks at the speed elite, he doesn't necessarily see a newcomer establishing himself at the top. “I rate Mayer, Feuz, Kilde and Caviezel very highly. You have to see Jansrud. He had problems on the downhill last winter,” says Paris, who will also get to know the Corona regulations for the first time on his first World Cup appearance this season. “Of course I know the protocol very well, but I will only now experience first hand how everything really plays out. In any case, we had to take a corona test before arrival and another after arrival. I’ll hear the rest now.”

Dominik Paris: That's the mood before the big comeback

On January 18th, Dominik Paris came second in the Lauberhorn downhill. Three days later, his cruciate ligament in his right knee tore during Super-G training. Now he is returning to the World Cup, 326 days after his last race.
