Turbulent finale in Schladming – Mölgg is top

Although we are now used to ghost races in the ski circus, it was surreal on Tuesday evening: where thousands of fans usually make a hell of a noise on the edge of the slopes, this time there was a yawning emptiness. The audience would probably have been crazy on this snowy Tuesday: Marco Schwarz was the first Austrian to win on the Planai since Marcel Hirscher.

After the first round, Black was not one of the favorites at all, as he was only in sixth place in the thick snow in Schladming. Thanks to a fabulous second run, he made a big leap forward - also because the top 4 all showed nerves after the first run. Ramon Zenhäuser (he was fourth) fell back, as did Sebastian-Foss Solevåg (second), and Michael Matt (third) was eliminated.

Manuel Feller, who is in the form of his life this season after difficult years, finally emerged as the half-time leader. But the dream of many Austrians of a double victory was shattered after just a few seconds: after a driving error, Feller was thrown off the course and he was eliminated.

The victory went to Schwarz, who is ahead of the two Frenchmen Clement Noel and Alexis Pinturault in the ranking. By the way, they were fifth and eleventh respectively after the first run. Black is a model of consistency this year: he was on the podium six times in seven slaloms. Manfred Mölgg with the best result of the season From a South Tyrolean perspective, Manfred Mölgg had to do it again. The veteran from St. Vigil once again emphasized that his form curve is pointing steeply upwards in the comeback season after a cruciate ligament tear and achieved his best result of the season with eighth place. The 38-year-old laid the foundation for this top result in the first run, in which he fought his way up to seventh place with start number 23. Mölgg also showed a good performance in the decision, but lost some time due to a few minor mistakes and ultimately fell one place back in the rankings.

There was nothing to gain for the other South Tyroleans. Alex Vinatzer didn't find a way out of the crisis in Schladming either and crossed the finish line more than three seconds behind after an incorrect drive. He was therefore not included in the decision and missed the points for the fifth time in a row. Simon Maurberger did well in the first round, but was eliminated in the middle part. Tobias Kastlunger also didn't make it to the finish line in the first run.
