EC Reinswald: The super combination goes to Victor Muffat Jeandet

Victor Muffat Jeandet celebrated the second European Cup victory of his career in the Sarnen ski area. After the descent on a shortened route, the 23-year-old Frenchman was in 15th place before he catapulted himself up 14 places with a strong performance in the Stangenwald. After Johan Clarey and Jeremie Durand, Muffat Jeandet is the third Frenchman to win a European Cup race in the Sarntal. Clarey won all three competitions in 2007, Durand won the super combined a year later.

The Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde came second on Thursday, 0,23 seconds behind. The 20-year-old Scandinavian was 30th after the descent and made ideal use of starting number one in the slalom. He even gained 28 positions.

Frederic Berthold's series continues

The Austrian Frederic Berthold came in third place, making it to the podium in Reinswald for the fifth time in a row: Last year he was among the top three in all three competitions, and on Wednesday he won the downhill.

Berthold was only in 13th place on Thursday after the super combined downhill, but with a surprisingly strong slalom performance he worked his way up position by position. In the end, the 21-year-old Voralberger was 0,56 behind winner Victor Muffat Jeandet.

“It's unbelievable, everything just fits together here in the Sarntal. The environment is so familiar, that's why I just feel comfortable. I made a mistake in the combined downhill, but everything worked out for me in the slalom. Tomorrow I will attack fully in the Super-G so that this series lasts,” said Berthold at the finish.

Last season's super combined classification winner, Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr, finished the competition in fourth place. The Swiss World Cup participant Marc Gisin finished in fifth place (+0,92).

The best “Azzurro” was Paolo Pangrazzi. The 24-year-old from Madonna di Campiglio ended up in eighth place, 1,60 seconds behind the winner. Silvano Varettoni, who won the super combined downhill today, ended up in 37th place. Aaron Hofer came in 54th place as the best South Tyrolean (+5,97).

The Sarn European Cup week traditionally ends on Friday with the Super-G. The start is scheduled for 9.30 a.m.
