EC Reinswald: Raffort wins the downhill, Pangrazzi the combined

The descent on the Plankenhorn piste should have started at 9.30:11.30 a.m. However, strong gusts of wind meant that the start had to be postponed several times. Because the wind was particularly strong in the starting area in the immediate vicinity of the mountain station of the cable car, it was moved a little further down after several time delays. The speed race finally began at XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. on an otherwise perfect winter day with sunshine and a bright blue sky.

The Frenchman Nicolas Raffort won the downhill. It took advantage of starting number one because all the other racers then bit their teeth on its winning time of 1.21,18:14 minutes. For Nicolas Raffort, who finished 2014th in the first downhill on Tuesday, it was the second European Cup victory of his career. In 24 he won a Super-G in Val d'Isere. In Reinswald, the closest came the 0,13-year-old Frenchman Silvano Varettoni from Pieve di Cadore, who was 0,23 seconds slower. Paolo Pangrazzi also took third place with an “Azzurro” (+XNUMX).

By the way, with the third fastest downhill time, Pangrazzi won the Alpine Combined. After the slalom that took place on Wednesday, the Trentino native was in ninth place. The 27-year-old racer from Madonna di Campiglio thus laid the foundation for his second European Cup victory. He won the first one in Reinswald in 2010, which was a super combination at the time.

Behind Pangrazzi, Frederic Berthold and his Austrian compatriot Christian Walder climbed to the podium in the Alpine Combined. For Berthold from Vorarlberg, who won the downhill race in Reinswald on Tuesday, it was already the seventh European Cup podium in the Sarntal. Walder took third place in the downhill on Tuesday and climbed onto the podium for the ninth time in the European Cup.

The South Tyrolean athletes had nothing to do with the outcome of the race. Florian Schieder from Castelrotto was the best local participant, coming 44th in the Alpine combined and 69th in the downhill.

What more could you want... Reinswald meets my characteristics as a good glider. Even as a very young racer, I always felt very comfortable here. My goals this year? To also ride well in the World Cup and have a say in the fight for a medal at the Italian Championships.”
