Marco Odermatt is one of the ski stars of the present and the superstar of the future. The Swiss also has a sister who is – or was – a professional skier. Alina Odermatt declared her career over at the age of 20. “It could have been the next Swiss ski fairytale. But nothing will come of it now,” describes the Swiss paper View On Friday the career of Marco Odermatt's three-year-younger sister ended. In contrast to her brother, Alina never achieved a breakthrough. She was unable to clear the selection hurdle for the C squad of the Swiss team; the speed lady's best European Cup placement this season was 30th place in Santa Caterina. Now an internship awaits in the office That's probably why the Swiss woman decided to put her skis in the corner. “Over and over. It's time to start something new," she wrote on social media and later explained in the conversation skinews.ch : “The decision was not easy for me. I always fought to make it to the top. Even last winter. But in the 2019/20 season I was closer to qualifying for the Swiss Ski squad compared to last winter.” Alina Odermatt will start an internship in an office in June. This gives her a year to figure out which direction things could go. However, she won't be able to get away from skiing completely - if only because of her brother Marco, who is rocking the World Cup more and more. “I’m really excited to watch my brother in front of the TV and the live ticker,” says Alina.
