A Nonsberger makes Azzurri dream

For the 31-year-old from Tuenno near Cles am Nonsberg, who sensationally won World Cup silver in the giant slalom in February of this year, it would be the first World Cup podium ever - and of all things in the “almost home race” in Val Badia. The Trentino native was the first runner to start the race, had a few small wobbles at first but ultimately managed to convince.

But De Alprandini's time didn't last long. Immediately after him, the Swiss co-favorite Marco Ondermatt started the race. The Swiss needed a few goals to get up to speed, but continued to improve and took the lead.

Nobody came close to the times of Odermatt and De Aliprandini (+0,18 seconds). The German Alexander Schmid placed third after the first round (+1). The previous day's winner Henrik Kristoffersen didn't have a good run and in 3th place lost almost a second to Odermatt.

While no South Tyrolean took part in the decisive second run of the first giant slalom in Alta Badia, Simon Maurberger at least made it into the top 30 on Monday. The Ahrntaler, who had not gotten higher than 43rd place the day before, took 29th place in the first run this time . Riccardo Tonetti from Bolzano had a hard time on the Gran Risa and was traveling slowly. He didn't get higher than 33rd place. Hannes Zingerle and Alex Hofer are eliminated.
