An Azzurro celebrates his first podium

The perfect conditions from the previous day were no longer present, but the second giant slalom in Alta Badia was also able to provide a great spectacle. After the first round there was also an Azzurro in the fight for the top positions with Luca De Aliprandini. After an impressive performance in the first run, the man from Nonsberg not only grabbed his first podium, but also maintained a good chance of victory. Only Marco Odermatt was 0,18 seconds faster.

The Swiss didn't let that take away from his bread in the second round and put together a truly fabulous run. On his way to his third victory in the fourth giant slalom, Odermatt defied the rapidly deteriorating conditions and distanced the previously much celebrated De Aliprandini by 1,01 seconds. The German Alexander Schmid completed the podium (+1,09). Simon Maurberger improved by four places to 25th place. Premiere for De Aliprandini – Kristoffersen narrowly misses There was still reason to celebrate for the defeated Nonsberger. Second place was also his first podium in the Alpine Ski World Cup. De Aliprandini came out on top with a lead of 8 hundredths, just ahead of third-placed Alexander Schmid. The previous day's winner, Henrik Kristoffersen, had also calculated his chances and once again set off on a golden comeback. Ultimately, the Norwegian was only two hundredths short of the podium. For the World Cup rankings, Odermatt's lesson on the Gran Risa meant another mile for the Swiss. He comfortably leads the rankings in both the discipline rankings and the overall World Cup.

The slalom in Madonna di Campiglio continues on Wednesday before the World Cup departs for Bormio after the Christmas holidays (December 28th).
