A surprising resignation from Austria's ski team

Eva-Maria Brem unexpectedly said goodbye to the big ski stage on Sunday. “I feel that the time has now come for me to complete this phase of my life, for which I have so far put everything else in the background, and to start positively into something new and unknown,” she said in a press release from the Austrian Ski Association quoted.

The 32-year-old Brem was active in the Ski World Cup for 14 seasons and competed 153 times. Her flagship discipline was the giant slalom: it was here that she celebrated her greatest success in the 2015/16 season, namely winning the small crystal ball. She made it to the podium on RTL a total of eleven times and even ended up at the top three times. Because 14 years in the Ski World Cup have taught me that it is always worth overcoming such phases. Because in our sport, it’s often only small details that decide between Zero and Hero,” says the North Tyrolean.

One of the reasons for the end of her career: “What is surprising to me is that my inner voice, which whispered 'further, ever further' in my ear every day and with every swing, has become quieter. So now it’s time for me to do something new and it feels good and right.”
