A flood of comebacks in Austria's ski team

The parallel event is scheduled to take place in Lech-Zürs next weekend – if external conditions permit. At the end of November and beginning of December, the men will complete their first speed races in Lake Louise and Beaver Creek before the technicians start the season in Val d'Isére on December 10th.

There will also be numerous athletes who have been slowed down by injuries in recent months. A lot of it comes from the Austrian ski team. Five aces are aiming to return to the World Cup next season.

The winter sports nation is particularly looking forward to a comeback. Adrian Pertl, the 2021 slalom vice world champion is fit again after tearing his cruciate ligament. Eleven months ago he suffered this serious injury in the giant slalom in Val d'Isére, and the Carinthian is now back in full team training. At best, he could start in Lech-Zürs.

Also on the return of the giant slalom specialist Roland Leitinger everyone is happy in the red-white-red ski camp. The Salzburg man made it to the podium in Sölden a year ago, but a few weeks later he tore his third cruciate ligament. The rehab was tough with setbacks and difficult moments, but recently things have been going better and better for the 31-year-old. Leitinger's big goal: to be at the start in Val d'Isére.

Also on the way back Stefan Brennsteiner, who joined three weeks ago Training in Senales Valley caused a torn meniscus contracted it, had to undergo surgery and is now working on a comeback. “The return to action in December should go well,” says the giant slalomist, aiming to return to Val d'Isére.

Christian Hirschbühl won the parallel race in Lech-Zürs last season. In January of this year, however, he suffered a complicated fracture in his right ankle in the Wengen slalom. The Vorarlberg native has overcome this injury well and would like to defend his title in Lech-Zürs.

However, the comeback of the speed specialist is not foreseeable Daniel Danklmaier. A 25-meter jump was his downfall during downhill training in April. Diagnosis: cruciate ligament tear. The 29-year-old Styrian will return to skis shortly, but it is still uncertain when the Kitzbühel fifth-place finisher from 2019 will be able to race again. “I’m not stressing about the comeback, we just have to see how the next few weeks go,” said Danklmaier.
