Double shock: Norway loses two super talents

The two Norwegians Lucas Braathen and Atle Lie McGrath are two of the shooting stars of the season so far. Braathen sensationally won the giant slalom in Sölden in October, and McGrath also completely surprisingly finished second on the podium in Alta Badia. The two also wanted to cause a sensation in Adelboden - but then the Chuenisbärgli struck. Both McGrath and Braathen (both 20 years old) fell and will be out for a longer period.

Braathen was hit hard when he lost his balance a few meters before the finish in the second round and badly twisted his knee. The shooting star slipped over the finish line, but stayed there. The fact that he finished seventh in the final ranking was a side note.

Braathen then tried to leave the destination himself, but couldn't - so he had to be transported away. A little later, the sobering diagnosis was made in the hospital: The youngster has suffered an injury to the medial ligament in his knee and a dislocated patella, needs surgery and will be out for at least six months. The Scandinavians' team doctor Marc Strauss confirmed this to the Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

Atle Lie McGrath, on the other hand, got it in the first round. He lost his balance after making contact with a gate and fell. His knee also took some damage, but the injury doesn't seem to be as bad as Braathen's: According to initial examinations, McGrath suffered a sprained ligament in his knee. He has to undergo further checks, but will probably get out of it without surgery. McGrath still has to take a six-week break - the season is probably over. Very bitter news for the Norwegian ski camp.
