A ski wedding with turbulence

Swiss ski star Carlo Janka married his long-time girlfriend Jenny last week. The two exchanged vows in the Engadine in front of numerous guests - including Swiss NHL professional Nino Niederreiter - and then celebrated in St. Moritz. The 2010 overall World Cup winner was put through torture several times before and during his big day.

Actually, the wedding to a dashing lady of the heart who works as a graphic designer should have taken place last year, but because of Corona, the special day had to be postponed with a heavy heart. But the wait was worth it, says 34-year-old Janka Swiss magazines said: “The wedding was even more beautiful than we could have dreamed.” However, there was a “mistake” before the wedding, as Jenny reports: “I was late for my own wedding.” The hairstyle didn't work The problem: Ms. Janka had a “bad hair day.” “The hairstyle just didn’t want to fit. But luckily we got it under control after a little delay and rushed to the church,” explains the newly married 33-year-old, who kept her Carlo waiting in the church for around half an hour. When the bride finally walked down the aisle in a princess-like look, even Janka - who is known in skiing circles as the "Iceman" because of his cold nature - found it difficult to keep his emotions under control. “The feelings overwhelmed me. I had to hold back tears.”

An emotional moment also took place during the wedding when the two-year-old daughter Ellie brought the wedding rings to the altar. The Jankas' family happiness is complete. By the way, Carlo and his Jenny met via social media. She - who was hardly interested in skiing - didn't know at the time that he was an Olympic champion, world champion and overall World Cup winner. “On the first date I asked him whether he had competed in the World Cup,” Jenny Janka looks back with a smile. Nevertheless, there was an immediate spark between the two - so much so that the coronation took place in front of the wedding altar on Saturday.
