Emotional post: Lindsey Vonn isn't giving up yet

Vonn wrote on Instagram that she suffered a nerve injury in Cortina. That was the cause of her severe pain. “Now that we have recognized the problem, we have to solve it,” said the 34-year-old. Because this injury is a “new” injury, Vonn hopes that it can heal. “We haven't found a solution yet, so I won't be taking part in tomorrow's downhill training (Garmisch, editor's note),” explains the ski star.

In any case, there is no immediate end to Lindsey Vonn's career. “I know that I may not be able to end my career the way I imagined, but if there is a chance, I want to take it.” Finally, the American speaks to her fans: “Thank you I’m not giving up.”

Vonn's message in full: “After numerous physical therapies and a lot of time to think, we came to some conclusions about my knee. Firstly, we were able to find out why I was in so much pain in Cortina. The reason for this is a nerve injury in my foot, which I most likely sustained during the final jump in the first Cortina training session. After this training, the pain got worse day by day until on Sunday (Super-G, editor's note) I almost couldn't stand it anymore and my muscles stopped working.

Now we know what the physical problem is, the next task will be to fix it. We haven't found a solution yet, so I won't be taking part in tomorrow's downhill training (Garmisch, editor's note).

Now that this is a new injury, I hope we can get this under control. I'll now think from day to day and see what happens. I know that I may not be able to finish my career the way I wanted, but if there is an opportunity, I want to take it. Thank you all for your support – it helps me keep going.”
