Emotional ski jewel: “I had my life back – for 2 months”

Aline Danioth is considered a great talent in the team of Swiss technicians. The junior world champion in combination has already collected a total of 43 World Cup appearances - not bad for a 22-year-old who also won the gold medal with her teammates in the team parallel event at the 2019 World Championships in Åre. Recently, however, the career of the ski lady from Andermatt (Canton of Uri) received several curtsies because fate was not always kind to the likeable Swiss.

In 2016, when she was just 18, she tore her cruciate ligament for the first time, but fought back and even won the European Cup race at Kronplatz a year later. In the last two seasons she finally managed to establish herself in the World Cup - until the shock came in January 2020. In the parallel race in Sestriere she tore another cruciate ligament. After a break of several months, Danioth returned to snow in the summer, completed ski training again, worked her way back to her old form - and then had to accept the next, almost unbelievable setback. Two days ago she fell again during training - and the same cruciate ligament as in January tore again. An emotional statement It actually sounds unbelievable, but it really happened. For Aline Danioth it's now back to surgery, physiotherapy and rehabilitation - but she doesn't know whether she'll ever return to the ski stage. In a statement on social media, the ski ace gave free rein to his feelings. “I had my life back – for 2 months,” says Danioth, who continues: “What I can say with all my heart: I lived and enjoyed every single second on skis. And yes, I may sing, laugh and dance on the mountains – but most of the time I work hard. I always gave 150 percent so that one day I could be the best I can be.”

But fate had planned otherwise. “Sometimes there is an act of God that stops you – over and over again. I really don't know what I want to do with my life now. I hope it will look clearer in a few days.” Emotional words from a ski talent who you can only wish one thing: all the best!
