“Thanks to skiing – it was a love-hate relationship”

Katerina Paulathova is probably only known to die-hard ski insiders. The Czech took part in 59 World Cup races, two Olympic Games and five World Championships, but it was never enough to make it to the top. Rather, the all-rounder, who competed in all the classic races (downhill, super-G, slalom, giant slalom, alpine combination) at the 2017 World Championships in St. Moritz, always had the motto: Being there is everything. She now caused a stir with her resignation announcement. At the Czech Championships in Špindlerův Mlýn, Paulathova celebrated the end of her career in grand style. With a glass of champagne in her hand and a short summer dress, she raced across the piste in the giant slalom, beaming with the Czech sun. The 28-year-old, whose best placement was 17th in the 2018 Olympic combined event, was welcomed at the finish by numerous companions. The champagne showers and numerous bright swimming tires made the summer feeling on the ski slopes perfect. The numerous entries on her social media profile show how happy Paulathova was. Even a week after her last race, the memories are still omnipresent. The blonde ski lady often had to struggle in her career, as her farewell lines attest: “Thanks for skiing. It was a long love-hate relationship. Many thanks to everyone who made this trip so special.” The Czech has already built up a second source of income during her career: she also works as a fitness coach.
