Decisive European Cup final for Werner Heel

In the downhill on Sunday it's all about the sausage for veteran Werner Heel: Before the downhill final, the Passeirer is in second place in the discipline ranking, 41 points behind the leader Christopher Neumayer (AUT) and 17 points ahead of the third Adrian Smiseth Sejersted (NOR ). These three runners are currently in a fixed place, but the Swiss Urs Kryenbühl is involved in this match in fourth place - he is 41 points behind Heel. Purely mathematically, all four downhill skiers have a chance of a top 3 place in the downhill ranking, even if Kryenbühl has to hope that his competitors have a bad day.

If Heel gets a permanent place in the World Cup, he will be allowed to compete in all World Cup downhills in the coming season. The soon-to-be 36-year-old has competed in a total of 197 World Cup races, but in the past season there were only six starts - in 23rd place he was only able to get into the points in the downhill race in Val Gardena.

Maurberger wants third place

The European Cup final will also be exciting for Simon Maurberger from Ahrntal, who is currently only 28 points short of third place in the giant slalom rankings. However, the 23-year-old is under a lot of pressure because he shares fourth place with the Swiss Sandro Jenal, both of whom are only 13 points ahead of Thomas Tumler (SUI) and 18 points ahead of the Frenchman Thibaut Favrot. Immediately behind him is Alex Hofer from Castelrotto, 23 points behind the Maurberger/Jenal duo.

Tommaso Sala (ITA) in the slalom and Emanuele Buzzi (ITA) in the super-G are also fighting for a fixed place in the World Cup.

11 South Tyroleans in Andorra

The South Tyroleans Werner Heel, Alex Hofer, Simon Maurberger, Alexander Prast, Florian Schieder, Alex Zingerle, Hannes Zingerle, Dominik Zuech, Nadia Delago, Teresa Runggaldier and Anna Hofer will be at the final in Soldeu. Decisive European Cup final for Werner Heel
