If you believe the rumor mill, the 33-year-old wants to compete at the Winter Olympics in South Korea. However, there are only two months left until the games start on February 9th. Neureuther would have a good reason to start in South Korea: On the way to the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014, he was in a car accident, injured his leg and suffered a concussion. In the slalom he was eliminated in the second run, but in the giant slalom he came eighth - an exact copy of his performance at the 2010 Games in Vancouver. And at his first Winter Games in Turin in 2006, the man from Garmisch-Partenkirchen was eliminated in both races.

A few days before Felix Neureuther, Elena Curtoni tore her cruciate ligament while training in the USA, and Irene Curtoni's sister had already undergone surgery in Milan. As the Italian Ski Association announced, Curtoni will have to take a break for at least six months. Two South Tyrolean women are also injured: giant slalom specialist Karoline Pichler from Petersberg tore a cruciate ligament in September, and the young speed specialist Verena Gasslitter broke her shin in a training fall in South America a few days after Pichler. Ilka Stuhec, last season's downhill queen, is also out with a torn cruciate ligament.

The list of injured skiers in the World Cup is long again this season. The last case so far: The winner of the Levi slalom, Felix Neureuther, tore the cruciate ligament in his left knee during giant slalom training in Copper Mountain (USA). This puts the German in good company.
