“Are we going again?”: Father Hirscher would like to persuade his son

The Austrian Ski Association didn't need any persuasion to keep Ferdinand Hirscher in its ranks. It was a great pleasure for him to go from race to race with Marcel and he now wanted to pass on the knowledge that they had built up together over many years. His grandson will probably also benefit from this. Marcel and his wife Laura's boy is now just over two years old. “When the first snow comes at home, I will try to go skiing with Marcel’s son,” said the grandfather. He was hired by the ÖSV to stabilize the runners' swings using ski school technology and to assist them with material testing. “It gives me great pleasure, even though the results are not up to par. But we really try to get the most out of it. It's different work than with his son Marcel, whom he trained from an early age. “With Marcel, it was an advantage that over many years of accompaniment, techniques had developed that really came into play when he made the international leap. We need a little bit here.” You don’t have to change everything, but certain important things, the inner position and the drift, are no longer completely up to date these days.

The name Hirscher is still present in the Alpine Ski World Cup, albeit in the background. In the second season after the retirement of eight-time overall World Cup winner Marcel, his father and coach Ferdinand Hirscher is supporting Austria's technical men as a coach.
