Felix Neureuther ends his career

“My heart and above all my body have made it clear to me over the last few months that it is time to end this chapter of ski racing that has been so wonderful for me,” wrote Neureuther on Facebook. He posted the following video:

Danke!!!Danke für die eine unglaubliche Zeit. Für all die Daumen die ihr mir gedrückt habt, die Freude, Tränen und das Lachen was ihr mit mir in all den Jahren geteilt habt! Ich habe meinen Kindheitstraum in vollen Zügen leben dürfen und dafür bin ich so unendlich dankbar. Aber mein Herz und vor allem mein Körper haben mir in den letzten Monaten deutlich zu verstehen gegeben, dass es an der Zeit ist, dieses für mich so wunderschönes Kapitel „Skirennsport“ zu beenden. Morgen werde ich zum letzten Mal im Starthaus stehen, die Piste runterschauen, tief einatmen, das Adrenalin spüren und mit einem riesengroßen Lächeln meine letzten Slalomtore fahren. Danke das ihr diese Reise mit mir gemacht habt!Ich werde immer glücklich auf diese Zeit zurückblicken. Aber jetzt ist es an der Zeit weiterzugehen und ein neues Kapitel zu schreiben. Der Skisport war mein Leben und wird es in Zukunft auch bleiben. Deswegen sag ich nicht „servus“, sondern bis bald. Alles Liebe!!!Euer Felix

With 13 victories, Neureuther is the most successful German Alpine in the World Cup, where he made his debut on January 4, 2003 in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. The slalom specialist is missing the big individual title, even though he has been able to call himself world champion since winning team gold in 2005. In his flagship discipline, Neureuther won World Championship silver (2013) and two bronze medals (2015/2017), as well as another bronze medal with the team (2013).

Skiing is losing one of its most dazzling figures and probably its most popular representative in Neureuther. Because of his mischievous character, the Munich-born man received a lot of sympathy. However, he was also considered a sloppy ski genius, and physical problems such as chronic back pain, a torn cruciate ligament in November 2017 and, most recently, a nut allergy slowed him down.

Neureuther has been married to the former cross-country skier and biathlete Miriam Gössner since 2017. They both have a daughter (Matilda, 1).

Felix Neureuther ends his career

Ski racer Felix Neureuther will end his long and successful career with the last slalom of the season on Sunday. The 34-year-old from Partenkirchen announced this via social media on the sidelines of the World Cup final in Soldeu (Andorra).
