Captivating innovations for the 2023/24 ski season

The committee meetings of the World Ski Federation (FIS) in Dubrovnik on Friday set a new course for the next season for Alpine skiers.

For now, the majority are suggestions; they must be approved by the FIS Council on May 24th. In the Alpine race, the season will start and end later due to climate change, the World Cup final in Saalbach will be extended to two weeks and Gurgl will make its World Cup debut.

A men's slalom is to be held in the village in the Ötztal Alps. Bansko in Bulgaria and Kvitfjell in Norway are set to return to the men's calendar. In the women's calendar, which consists of eleven competitions in each discipline, according to the plan, in contrast to last winter, Val d'Isere and Garmisch-Partenkirchen will be there again in the speed area, and after a few years Jasna in Slovakia and in Val di Fassa will also be there again can be driven in Italy. Within Canada, the traditional event organizer Lake Louise will be replaced by Mont Tremblant.

There are no longer any races in Lake Louise.

In principle, February, which runs without a major event in 2024, should primarily be reserved for organizers who rarely appear in the calendar. The season opening in Sölden is scheduled to take place a week later than before, as is the season's showdown, which is more focused on the weekends. In Saalbach the technical competitions will take place in the first week and the speed events in the second week. The speed opener in Zermatt-Cervinia, which was canceled last winter due to weather, is scheduled to take place again, but later in November.

A new format in Kitzbühel?

The combination is to be changed to the format last used at the Junior World Championships in St. Anton, when one team member competed in downhill or super-G and another in a slalom run. Details are still being worked out, but Kitzbühel is planned for the men's premiere. Ultimately, in terms of safety, airbags should become mandatory in the World Cup from the 2024/25 season.
