Feuz and Co.: International ski stars in Reinswald

Over the past few days, the two reigning downhill world champions, the Swiss Beat Feuz and Patrick Küng, have been training in the Sarnen ski area, as has the sensational winner in the Super-G Josef Ferstl from Val Gardena.

Beat Feuz won the downhill at his home World Championships in St. Moritz in February of this year. Two years before that he had won the bronze medal at the championships in Beaver Creek. At that time, Patrick Küng, his compatriot, had prevailed in the supreme discipline of alpine skiing. The two successful Swiss speed aces took advantage of the perfect training conditions in Reinswald this week to continue working on their form with a view to the 2018 Olympics after the races in Val Gardena.

Speaking of Val Gardena: The winner of the Super-G also trained with Josef Ferstl on the Saslong in Sarntal. A week ago it was Ferstl's first victory in the most important racing series in alpine skiing. And it was a historic triumph because Ferstl ended a long dry spell: The last Super-G success by a German in the World Cup was 26 years ago until last Friday and was achieved by a certain Markus Wasmeier. Andreas Sander from the German team also trained in Reinswald, while Steven Nyman, a veteran from the US team, was present in Sarntal. Nyman is a real Val Gardena specialist, as he all celebrated his three downhill World Cup victories in South Tyrol.

Looking forward to the European Cup

But it's not just today's stars who take advantage of the perfect work opportunities in the Sarntal. The first international training camp was held on the Schöneben slope from Wednesday to Friday, where 15 young athletes had the opportunity to work with top trainers Franz Gamper and Hansjörg Plankensteiner. A further three camps are planned until mid-February in the ultra-modern training center, which the lift company and the Race Center Sarntal have built in recent months.

The European Cup will be pitching its tents again in Reinswald at the end of February. As part of the Sarner Speed Week there will be a downhill run (February 21st), an Alpine combination (February 22nd) and finally a Super-G (February 23rd).
