This is demonstrated by the fact that the Streif has repeatedly thrown off even the most hard-nosed and talented ski aces over the years. The topic of security is therefore always a top priority - perhaps even more so this year. In the back of many people's minds is still the tragic death of Frenchman David Poisson, who fell during a training ride in Canada in November and lost his life.

In an interview with the Tiroler Tageszeitung, Peter Fill, who won the Streif downhill run in 2016, spoke about this incident: “It was brutally difficult for me at the moment when David Poisson's fatal accident happened.” Whether So fear is always with you? “You can’t let something like that get into your head. When we are on the track, no matter where, there is a lot of security. But it's not a safe sport. There was a lot of interaction at Poisson. But we have to ignore that – otherwise we can’t drive anymore.”

“You have to declare war on us” In the interview, which was conducted together with Dominik Paris, other topics also came up - for example, Fill's life as a father of two, which he commented with a smile: "My big fear was always that I wouldn't be able to race anymore if I become a father. That I no longer dare to go full throttle. But since I have a family and a house, I'm also really good on the flats." Colleague Paris, who goes into the Kitz downhill as defending champion on Saturday, had one when asked why the South Tyroleans are so strong on the Streif simple and appropriate answer: “I have no idea. If something suits you, it’s a little easier.”
