French premiere victory in Val d'Isere - Tonetti strong

The half-time leader from Austria did not live up to his role as favorite in the second race, but came in second and prevented the total French triumph. Faster than Hirscher was surprise man Mathieu Faivre, who clinched his first World Cup victory with a half-second lead. Faivre's compatriots Alexis Pinturault, Thomas Fanara and Victor Muffat-Jeandet followed in third to fifth place.

Behind this quintet was Luca De Aliprandini from Nonstal, who gained five places with a courageous run in the second round and finally finished the giant slalom in sixth place.

Tonetti slips from 5 to 10

Meanwhile, Riccardo Tonetti came off as the best South Tyrolean. The man from Bolzano was unable to repeat his rapid performance from the first run and ended up losing five places. In tenth place, he collected numerous World Cup points and also recorded his second-best giant slalom result in the world's best racing series. Just a year ago in Beaver Creek, Tonetti was even further ahead in eighth place.

In addition to Tonetti, two other local "technicians" finished in the points in Val d'Isere: Florian Eisath came 20th after a good second run, Manfred Mölgg took 25th place. Speed specialist Dominik Paris, however, was unable to qualify for the second round .

Four French people in the top five. "Les Blues" clearly dominated the World Cup giant slalom in front of their home crowd in Val d'Isere. Only Marcel Hirscher was able to keep up.
