“Frustrated and disappointed”: Ski ace has to end the season

One small mistake and it happened: French technical specialist Thibaut Favrot suffered a serious knee injury during training. “I fell in training and quickly felt that something had happened,” he said in the L'Equipe quoted. An MRI scan a little later gave the sobering diagnosis: a torn cruciate ligament in the knee. So the season is over before it has even begun.

“It's hard to put it into words, but let's just say: There are more serious things in life,” said Favrot. “There is frustration and disappointment. But I want to look for the positive points and make the best of the situation. I can't bury myself in a hole. I believe in myself, I believe in my loved ones, I believe in my employees, in my sponsors. And I know that we will all do our best to help me come back stronger.”

No home World Cup Particularly bitter: This season Favrot could have contested his home World Championship in Courchevel/Meribel. The 27-year-old now has to bury this dream. “I'm hit, but not sunk,” says the technology specialist combatively.

In his career, Favrot took part in 48 World Cup races and made it onto the podium once: in 2018 he came second in the parallel giant slalom in Alta Badia. Last year, the technician came fifth at the Olympics, narrowly missing out on a medal, and this year the season got off to a promising start for him with a 10th place in the Sölden giant slalom. But now Thibaut Favrot is waiting for a long time without skiing.
