Five South Tyroleans in action in Sölden

A total of eight “Azzurri” will compete in the men’s giant slalom in Sölden on Sunday. Apart from debutant Giulio Bosca, Luca De Alpiprandini and Roberto Nani, they are all South Tyroleans.

Alex Hofer and Hannes Zingerle make their debut The team is led by Manfred Mölgg. The 36-year-old is competing on the Rettenbachferner for the twelfth time. Apart from a second place in 2012, the traditional start of the World Cup rarely went as planned for the man from Val Badia. The same goes for Riccardo Tonetti. The 29-year-old from Bolzano was never able to qualify for the second round in his two giant slalom starts in Sölden. The remaining two South Tyrolean starters are taking part in Sölden for the first time. Hannes Zingerle and Alex Hofer will make their Sölden debut this weekend. For 23-year-old Zingerle (he comes from La Ila/Stern) it is only his fifth appearance in the World Cup. Hofer has even less experience at this level. He has competed in the World Cup twice so far, but the 24-year-old from Castelrotto has not yet received any points.
