Goggia is celebrating a dream comeback in Garmisch

The women's Super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, originally planned for Sunday, was held on Saturday. Due to heavy snowfall, the start was postponed from 10 a.m. to 11.30:XNUMX a.m. During the race, however, there were optimal conditions for the women.

During her World Cup comeback (after breaking her ankle), Goggia showed a risk-taking ride with start number 6 and was extremely fast, especially in the lower part of the route. Her time was only beaten by Nicole Schmidhofer with start number 15. The Austrian pushed the accelerator hard, especially in the upper part of the track, and at one point led Goggia by seven tenths of a second. At the finish, Schmidhofer saved a lead of 0,23 seconds. Lara Gut-Behrami came in third (+0,45 seconds), who took the podium for “only” the second time this season.

Strong “Azzurre” Second best “Azzurra” was Federica Brignone in fourth place, who missed the podium by just a tenth of a second. Marta Bassino, Francesca Marsaglia and Nadia Fanchini took ninth, tenth and eleventh place, rounding off a strong team result.

Nicol Delago from Wolkenstein showed a committed ride in the upper part of the route with start number 23. Shortly before the finish, however, the 22-year-old made a fatal mistake and was unable to keep pace on the flat section. At the finish she was 2,15 seconds behind the leading Schmidhofer and ended up in 27th place. Nadia Delago with start number 53 did not make it to the finish.

The American Lindsey Vonn decided not to start on the Kandahar route due to her injury problems. The Super-G winner from Cortina, Mikaela Shiffrin, also skipped the Garmisch races completely.

On Sunday there will be a downhill run (11.30 a.m.) to end the Garmisch weekend.
