Goggia on stuntman crash: “I had nightmares for a long time”

Goggia is considered a wild hen on the slopes and is one of Italy's great medal hopes for the 2021 home World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo. The political science student is also an ambassador for this. “Not even a stuntman can do something like that on purpose,” says Goggia, knowing how lucky she was. Because the owner of the Ducato usually never parks there because of the snow plows, she made it clear that the accident could have ended very badly. “I had nightmares for a week and was still in the crashing car for nights,” she admitted. Today she can joke again. “Apparently I park better than I ski,” she joked in an interview with the APA. “The Ducato owner wanted to buy a new car anyway. I sped up the process.” This year every race is important Because no medals will be awarded next season, Goggia has also changed its preparation. “This winter is missing the moment when you have to be particularly in shape. The third overall finisher from 2017 does not (yet) see herself as Italy's hope for overall World Cup victory. “Mikaela Shiffrin is the clear favorite, we are fighting for the small balls.” Seen in this way, Goggia is the American's direct competitor in the downhill, who is known to be starting this winter with a particular focus on the only trophy still missing from her collection. Goggia's personal idol is still US icon Lindsey Vonn, who has also resigned. “I can still see her today through the eyes of when I was an admiring teenager.”
