Val Gardena is ready for the 50th anniversary party

The two traditional events were presented on Thursday morning at the Hotel Laurin in Bolzano. Guests of honor included Max Blardone (now Rai commentator after retiring) and Kristian Ghedina (four-time Saslong winner). “Gröden is a very special stop for a racer because you can literally soak up history here,” explained Ghedina.

This year's edition is special for the Val Gardena organizers - and not just because the weather conditions are ideal compared to previous years and large parts of the slopes are already covered in snow. Especially due to the fact that the Saslong is celebrating its 15th anniversary on December 16th (Super-G) and 50th (Downhill). The OK team has therefore come up with something special as a “birthday party”, namely a big television show that looks back on the great World Cup history in Val Gardena. “Circus, acrobatics and light shows build a bridge between history and the present,” explains managing director Stefania Demetz. Guests of honor such as Gustav Thöni, Herbert Plank, Franz Klemm and Pirmin Zurbriggen are expected.

Technicians on the Gran Risa As always, the South Tyrolean World Cup weekend is made perfect with the two races in Alta Badia. There will be a giant slalom on the Gran Risa on Sunday, December 17th, and a special treat will take place the next day with the parallel giant slalom. Florian Eisath will be particularly remembered for the Gran Risa: last year he surprisingly advanced to third place in the giant slalom and celebrated his first World Cup podium. One thing is certain: this year too, the weekend in Val Gardena and Stern will be a great spectacle.

Val Gardena is ready for the 50th anniversary party

Only three more weeks until there will be a real highlight on South Tyrolean soil: a total of four ski World Cup races will be on the program in Val Gardena and Alta Badia.
