Gut-Behrami against Vlhova: Thriller about the ball is on the horizon

Before the last races, the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami is 187 points ahead of the Slovakian Petra Vlhova. Every counter could ultimately be the deciding factor.

Even though she missed the Speed Triple in Trentino on Sunday, things are going like clockwork for Gut-Behrami at the moment. If you exclude the parallel competition at the World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo, where she failed in qualifying, the 29-year-old has been consistently in the top three in eleven races since her second downhill place on January 23rd in Crans-Montana. Gut-Behrami won seven of them - namely four Super-Gs, two downhills and the World Cup giant slalom.

The first reward for her season is the small crystal ball for the Super-G classification, for her “beautiful and something very special. After all, it’s been many years since I last won a ball.” If the Ticino woman can still show off her excellent form in three disciplines at the last World Cup stages, Vlhova will have a hard time winning the big ball for the first time. On Sunday, the Slovakian didn't score any points in 32nd place before heading to her home country in Jasna next weekend for a giant slalom and a slalom.

Gut-Behrami doesn't do slaloms and would have little chance of scoring points even if she decided to do so. She will have more free time in the next two weeks. It had been “long days” recently and she was “struggling with fatigue like many others,” said Gut-Behrami. “Switching off at home is what I need most right now.” Vlhova has to deliver in the slalom Vlhova's match plan is clear.
