Olsson leads in Saalbach – South Tyrolean close to top 10

The giant slalom in Sölden, which was canceled at the start of the season, will take place on Wednesday in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. After the first round, Swede Matts Olsson is in the lead. If he confirms this placement in the decision, it would be only the 30-year-old's second World Cup victory (2017 winner of the parallel RTL in Alta Badia). Olsson got the lower part of the route in particular ideally. However, Austrian Manuel Feller is close behind in second place (+0,03 seconds). In third place is the young Swiss Loic Meillard (+0,30 seconds), who has never been on a World Cup podium.

Particularly noticeable: start number 1 leads ahead of numbers 4 and number 2. The slope in Saalbach got worse and worse as the first run continued. Above all, the athletes had to suffer from poor visibility of the ground. Marcel Hirscher also couldn't cope with the slopes at his home World Cup. The overall World Cup leader obviously had problems with his equipment setup in the first round and lost a lot of time, especially on the flat section. At the halfway point of the race he is “only” in fifth place (+0,71 seconds).

South Tyroleans not in the top ten Manfred Mölgg, who started the race with start number 13, continually lost time from top to bottom. At the finish, he was 2,13 seconds behind Olsson. This puts him in 13th place. Riccardo Tonetti (start number 18) also didn't cope well with the rough slope. The man from Bolzano is in 14th place (+2,35 seconds). Luca De Aliprandini from Nonsberg is just ahead of the two South Tyroleans in 12th place.

The other South Tyroleans (Hannes Zingerle and Simon Maurberger) took 37th and 39th place respectively and were unable to qualify for the second run.

Olsson leads in Saalbach – South Tyrolean close to top 10

The Swede Matts Olsson took advantage of the moment in the first round of the giant slalom in Saalbach-Hinterglemm and took the half-time lead with start number 1. Three “Azzurri” are just behind the top ten and are at least still in wait.
