Hanna Schnarf: “I just wanted to put my skis on again”

SportNews: In November 2018 you broke your tibia and fibula in a training fall in North America. Now you were on skis again for the first time. How was it? Hanna Schnarf: “It was just wonderful, wonderful! The whole feeling on snow, the weather was also fantastic on Friday. In addition, the change of scenery was good for me after the long rehab. I'm really happy."

What was on the agenda for these 2 days? “Of course it wasn’t racing, it wasn’t real ski training. I sort of slid around on the Stilfserjoch to see if the injured leg would keep up. At a slow speed I did some ski instructor exercises so as not to overdo it. The material was also not racing material, but for tourists, so to speak.”

Keyword material. Did you have to make special adjustments to your ski boots because of the injury? “No, because I only skied slowly for a few hours. Without much pressure. I didn't want to or couldn't train properly. I just wanted to put my skis back on."

What is your impression after this ski attempt? “It feels really good and I think I’m on the right track. It was just fun to be on skis again, even on the first ride on the tow lift. On Thursday the weather was bad, all the athletes had no fun – only I was beaming and had a great day!”

Does your left leg hurt after 2 days in the snow? “Of course I feel the injury, but that’s normal. After all, completely different forces act on your body when skiing, even if you're going slowly. On Thursday I only skied for 2 hours, on Friday it was much longer and there were a lot more rides."

What's on the agenda for the next few days and weeks? “The doctors say that the bones are not completely healed yet. That's why I'm now going to try sound wave therapy. This is said to speed up healing and bring better results. “I definitely want to be on skis again in August/September.”
