Heavy fog affected the second training session on the Val Gardena Saslong. It had to be interrupted again and again. In the meantime, FIS boss Markus Waldner & Co. even considered shortening the route. In the end the fog cleared at least a little and training continued shortly before 14 p.m.

Mayer at the front

The Austrian Matthias Mayer won the second Val Gardena training session. He was 40 hundredths faster than Benjamin Thomsen. The Canadian was wearing start number 68 and ended up in second place. But he wasn't the only runner who took one of the top places with a high start number. Otmar Striediger (number 55) came third, the Italian Emanuele Buzzi crossed the finish line fourth and finished training in seventh place. Wiley Maple, the surprise man from the first training session in Val Gardena, also showed strong today and came in tenth.

Heel in fifth place

The best South Tyrolean in the second training session was Werner Heel. The Passeirer finished in fifth place, 81 hundredths behind. Heel had already taken the same place in the first downhill training. Now it's time to translate the good training performance into the races. Petern Fill from Castelrotto, who is still struggling with back problems, took 16th place. Christof Innerhofer, who was disqualified in the first training session, finished the second training session in 28th place. Dominik Paris from Ultimo, who started with number three before the long break, found himself in 54th place at the end of the training session. However, the significance of the second training is also limited.

The Super-G will take place on the Saslong tomorrow, and the downhill is on the program on Saturday. Both races start at 12.15 p.m.
