“Heartbreaking”: From the World Cup throne to the hospital bed

Getting started in the Ski World Cup for the first time at the age of 28 is a rarity. However, Paula Moltzan succeeded. This season, the slalom and giant slalom specialist landed in the top 10 ten times and has thus collected more top rankings in one winter than in her previous career (there were 9 in total). The American also finished second on the podium in the Semmering Slalom. Mikaela Shiffrin's compatriot was also a hot medal hope at the World Championships in Courchevel and Méribel. She underlined this once again with her performance in the team event when she sensationally won the gold medal with the US girls and boys. Moltzan was a mainstay of the success as she won every heat except the one in the final, where she finished at the same time as her rival. Although she gritted her teeth, the subsequent examinations did not bring any good news: “Heartbreaking! I broke my left hand in the final of the team event. My team and I did everything we could to make it work for the slalom on Sunday, but it wasn't enough. The pain is too strong when I ski,” writes Moltzan on social media. She traveled to Vail (USA) on Saturday, where an operation will take place. But Moltzan is combative because she wants to be there again in Åre. These technology races will take place from March 10th.
