Hirscher is in his own league – Maurberger is surprised

This Marcel Hirscher is like from another planet: After the first round in second place behind Pinturault, he fired up his usual turbo in the decision and pushed the interim leader Matts Olsson into second place with a lead of one and a half seconds. Pinturault showed nerves during his run, made a big mistake in the middle section and fell back to fourth place - but even with a flawless run, Hirscher's time would have been very difficult to beat. For the Austrian it was the second giant slalom victory of the current season.

The podium was completed by two surprise men: Matts Olsson, who was third at halftime, came second in the final standings, while Stefan Luitz, who was fifth after the first round, came third.

Eisath and Maurberger are convincing From a South Tyrolean perspective, there were two positive reports: The ailing Florian Eisath (he fell during training) took 9th place, his third top ten place in the current giant slalom season, while Simon Maurberger finished 15th, his third place so far achieved the best World Cup result. The Ahrntaler qualified with start number 42 in 28th place for the second round, showed a strong performance there, especially in the final part, and collected numerous World Cup points in 15th place. So far, Maurberger has only finished in the points once, when he finished 2015st in Val d'Isère in December 21.

Manfred Mölgg, who was struggling with back pain, ended up in 13th place after a good first run (19th), and 14th at halftime. Riccardo Tonetti lights up in the final ranking in 22nd place.

Marcel Hirscher won the giant slalom in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in a confident manner. Florian Eisath became the best South Tyrolean, while Simon Maurberger achieved his best World Cup result.
