Hirscher dominates in Kranjska Gora – many failures and big deficits

With starting number one, Marcel Hirscher set a time in the Slovenian snow that remained unmatched throughout the entire first round. Henrik Kristoffersen is second, 0,73 seconds behind, local hero Zan Kranjec and Alexis Pinturault are third, almost a second and a half behind.

If Hirscher maintains his position in the second round, he would win the giant slalom discipline ranking for the fifth time.

The other runners had to struggle with the changing piste conditions and the unconventional course setting on the “Podkoren3”. Nine of the first 30 athletes did not finish. Among others, Florian Eisath, who scored a goal and crashed into the safety net. The Eggentaler was then able to drive to the finish independently. Manfred Mölgg, who started the race with start number 15, is in 18th place at the halfway point. He is almost four seconds behind. Riccardo Tonetti, in 22nd place, also lost almost four seconds to Hirscher. Simon Maurberger, however, narrowly missed the top 30.
