Hirscher leads – South Tyrolean lagging behind

Heavy snowfall, poor visibility, a rough slope: the first round of the Giant Slalom World Cup in Val d'Isère, France, was anything but easy for the ski racers.

However, Marcel Hirscher, who started the race with starting number 1, once again set an exclamation mark. The Austrian drove almost flawlessly and leads the Slovenian Zan Kranjec by 1 seconds after the first run. Third place is occupied by the Swede Matts Olsson (+00,71 seconds) after round 3, while the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen lurks in fourth place.

Tonetti and Mölgg still there For the “Azzurri”, only Riccardo Tonetti from Bolzano was able to convince in the first round. After the first round he is currently in 1th place and is therefore in the decisive second round.

Manfred Mölgg didn't have a good first run. The man from Enneberg had starting number 9 and, like the majority of the starters, had to deal with the most difficult weather conditions. Mölgg couldn't really cope with that and fell back to ninth and last place at the time.

Nevertheless, Mölgg has the chance to make amends: As 23rd of 78 starters, he qualified for the second round of the best 2.

Simon Maurberger ended up in 38th place and missed qualifying for the second run. The 2-year-old from St. Peter im Ahrntal recently triumphed in the European Cup (SportNews reported) .

There was nothing to gain for Alex Hofer. The Castelrotto resident took 47th place (+3,70) in the first round and thus clearly missed the second run.

Luca De Aliprandini from Nonstal narrowly managed to qualify for the second run in 25th place. The other “Azzurri” missed out on a place in the top 2. Felix Neureuther's comeback The German Felix Neureuther finished 18th in the first race in his comeback after more than a year. Stefan Luitz, whose sensational victory last weekend in Beaver Creek is in question because of the oxygen affair (see own article) , is currently in 8th place, just behind the seventh-placed North Tyrolean Manuel Feller.

The decisive second round begins at 2 p.m.

The first round of the giant slalom in Val d'Isère was characterized by adverse conditions. Marcel Hirscher took the lead on a shortened route. The starting position of the South Tyrolean starters, however, is not optimal.
